Musk will turn 50,000 Australian homes into the world’s largest virtual power plant

South Australia and Tesla already delivered the world’s biggest battery. Now they want to build the world’s largest virtual power plant. They want to use people’s homes as a way to generate energy for the South Australian grid. According to AFP, Tesla said in a statement that “the virtual power plant would have 250 megawatts of solar energy and 650 megawatt hours of battery storage.”

Tesla and South Australia government is planning to start a trial phase with 1,100 house. Each supplied with a  free 5kW solar panel system Tesla battery. After that, they will install the same system for another 24,000 “public housing properties”.

The South Australia government said yesterday, that “Under a new plan unveiled, a network of solar panels linked to rechargeable batteries will be provided free to households and financed by the sale of excess electricity generated by the network, the government said.”

South Australia is the home to world’s biggest battery installed by Elon Musk which is already in operation.
